Keycard Targeting, Writing a file to the Server, and Inventory Sorting

Hey, I'm new around here, I'm glad you finally enabled registration. Well, robo, the title kind of says it all. I think this was a very useful ability in past versions of lugormod, and implementing it again sounds (although I don't know... anything about the programming) like it wouldn't be overly hard, at least considering that it had been implemented in the past. If you could have an inventory item, a keycard, that you could use to teleport to somewhere, I think it would really be useful.

The next request, Writing a file to the server:

I've found multiple times, while thinking of things to build, that if there was an entity that could write a file on the server that just contained a number, or something like that, so you could keep track of how many times something was used, and it wouldn't be reset over mapchange, I think it would be great. I mainly thought of this because I'd like to do something like this: A person has a room for rent, and whenever people rent it, it adds one to the number on the file on the server. When the person who owns the room collects all the rent, it pays him X for each person that rented the room.
Although this IS a rather specific request, I'm willing to bet that it could be used for other things, as well.

The last thing I can think about (for now) is the ability of a user to rearrange their inventory. Something like:

/inventory insert 10 0

would put the current inventory item 10 into the slot 0, and move everything else down to fit. Then another thing:

/inventory swap 10 0

would swap items 10 and 0. Just a different way of organizing/sorting. Once again, I have no clue how hard this would be, but I think it would be useful.

The reason I have not let

The reason I have not let keycards use targets is that they can pass across multiple maps and might screw things up. I will consider adding this ability again by using a "proxy" entity to connect the keycard's target to an entity target.

Writing files to the server will be useless until I get the variable system online. This is in progress, but a low priority.

I might start sorting keycards by name, but I think moving them by command might be too confusing for most users. Will wait for more feedback.

In the future, please post each separate request as its own post, so I can track their status properly.

Alright, I'll make sure to do

Alright, I'll make sure to do it the correct way in the future.

Question: What exactly IS the "variable system" to which you referred? And as for keycards across multiple maps screwing things up, just make sure to place them with correct names, maybe with a map prefix in front.

*cough*

Robo...

"The reason I have not let keycards use targets is that they can pass across multiple maps and might screw things up."

If a builder makes a keycard target 'housetele' instead of 't3_bounty_snipeyehouse_tele', it's their own fault for being stupid.

I say go ahead and add iobject targetting, and let the bad builders learn from their OWN mistakes.

Suggestion: Keycards fire at

Suggestion: Keycards fire at propertyterminals that match their property key.

Or another key.

No need for that, just use a

No need for that, just use a super-unique target.

Besides: What if I WANT to make a keycard that works across multiple maps?

I seem to remember having an idea for a 'remote' iobject...

Like, fire target when used from inventory, fire target2 if targetname is triggered, both target and target2 are remote-holder as activator.

Is it possible to add this?

Stupid player mistakes means

Stupid player mistakes means more people complaining that "its broken". If you want the targetname to be used on more than one server, place the target proxy ent on more than one server.

I kind of agree with Cab,

I kind of agree with Cab, actually, but I understand Phred not wanting to deal with 10k OMG IZ BROKED.

That said, I hate tele iobjects. Bigtime. I remember some really bad players would try to fight me, teleport themselves back to their silly clan base, and run back to the original location before I could heal. That said, I can just avoid servers with stupid rules like that.

Wait, what? Who's Cab?

And an idea: For the proxy entity, make to that if it has maxs/mins, you can only use the keycard depending on whether or not you are inside the max/mins. Default inside, spawnflags to make it outside.
